The 5 Best American Food Delivery Apps
 Picvalue corp

Most food delivery apps look and function the same, so which one is the best? Recently, I have used several of the most popular food delivery apps one by one, and made a comparative evaluation of the specific cost, usage experience, discount strength, etc., and recommend the following 5 best food delivery apps in the United States for you to choose.

Note: The subject lives in Louisville, KY. Your experience may vary depending on your location when you ordered and the latest discounts currently available.

No.1

DoorDash: Best Overall

DoorDash was recently named the most popular food delivery app. According to the company, DoorDash has 310,000 partner restaurants in 4,000 cities around the world, 80% of which are in the United States.

The interface of this app is a bit more functional, but it is still very useful. A menu of icons at the top of the screen lets you search by food type (burgers, Mexican, sandwiches, etc.) or by rating, price level, 30-minute delivery, or vegetarian options.

As you scroll down, you'll see restaurants called "Select National Partners" (including The Cheesecake Factory and Chipotle, among others), restaurants with first-order discounts, local favorites, restaurants near you, DoorDash Deals, and restaurant lights you might want to try, plus you can search for specific restaurants.

When you click on a restaurant, you'll see its rating, delivery cost, estimated time, and distance from you. The menu is easy to navigate, sorted by popular dishes, followed by your usual starters, mains, desserts, and more. You can switch to the full menu view. Tap individual dishes to customize them and add them to your order.

Reviewers ordered from DoorDash on Monday night, choosing to expect delivery in 28 to 38 minutes, with food arriving in 36 minutes. That's a pretty good performance, as the restaurant is a 15-minute drive from the reviewer's home.

The reviewer paid $27 for two entrees and ended up paying $36 for them all, including a $6 tip for the driver. Also got a 25% off coupon that can be used for the next week. The following are the specific data details:

Delivery time: Monday night

Estimated delivery time: 28 to 38 minutes

Actual delivery time: 36 minutes

Two meals: $27

Tax: +$2

Delivery Fee: +$3

Service Charge: +$3

Discount: -$5

Driver tip: -$6

Total cost: $36

For comparison, if you dine at a restaurant, two entrees would cost $24 instead of the $27 on the online menu. If you also tip $6, the total cost is $29. $7 cheaper than ordering food online.

If you order meals frequently, you can sign up for DoorDash's subscription service, DashPass, for $10 a month for free shipping and a lower service fee.

Uber Eats: Fastest

If you're already an Uber user, you can log in directly, but you'll need to download the Uber Eats app separately. Uber Eats has more than 320,000 restaurant partners in more than 500 cities around the world. According to the company, its average delivery time is less than 30 minutes.

Uber Eats categorizes restaurants based on your previous orders, and you can also categorize restaurants by most popular, top-rated, price range, delivery time, delivery fee, and dietary needs. There are special discounts at the bottom of the homepage, as well as categories such as "Popular Near You" and "National Brands". Similar to Uber's ride-hailing app, you can track the current location of your food delivery driver in real-time.

The reviewer ordered two entrees and an appetizer at a local Italian restaurant for a total of $26, no discounts, for a total of $41, including the driver's $4 tip. The order arrived on time within 30 minutes despite being busy on a Saturday night. The following are the details of each data:

Delivery time: Saturday night

Estimated delivery time: 30 minutes

Actual delivery time: 30 minutes

Two meals plus appetizer: $26

Tax: +$2

Shipping Fee: +$5

Service charge: +$4

Discount: -$0

Driver tip: +$4

Total meal and tip: $41

Contrast eating at a restaurant: the food prices are the same as their online menu, and if nothing else, plus a $4 tip, we paid a total of 30 yuan. $11 cheaper than online.

Uber Eats doesn’t send additional email ads, and you can join Uber Rewards to earn points that can be used to enjoy free food delivery.

Grubhub: The easiest way to pay

Grubhub (which also owns Seamless) operates in 2,700 U.S. cities and works with 140,000 restaurants. Grubhub's and Seamless's apps are pretty much the same, with the ability to search by food type and sort by price, rating, distance, delivery time, and cost. If you click on my Grubhubhub option, you will see daily offers and past orders.

The reviewer ordered an appetizer and two mains at a local Mexican restaurant for a total of $33, plus a $10 tip for the driver (the app prompts for a 25% tip by default, and says the driver will get all tips). But the first time there was a promo code, it was $10 off, so it ended up costing it all $48.

Grubhub and Seamless support almost all payment methods, including PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc. This is a friendly feature if you don't want to use a credit card directly. Also, check out the Perks tab at the bottom of the app to find promotions and ways to earn cash back.

The following is the evaluation data:

Delivery time: Tuesday night

Estimated delivery time: 60 to 70 minutes

Actual delivery time: 70 minutes

Two meals plus appetizer: $33

Taxes and fees: +$9

Shipping Fee: +$6

Discount: -$10

Driver tip: +$10

Total meal cost: +$48

The price on the app of this restaurant seems to be even cheaper. If you eat at the restaurant, the meal cost is $35, and if you add a 20% tip, it will cost you a total of $42.

Postmates: Biggest discounts, 24/7 service

Currently, Postmates operates in more than 4,200 U.S. cities, with more than 500,000 restaurants to choose from. The APP has a lot of options and the interface is simple and clear. You can sort by Recommended, Fastest, Most Popular, or Food Type.

Postmates charges delivery fees ranging from $1 to $10, plus a variable service fee during busy times. Still, the app offers plenty of deals, often emailed, that can help offset those extra costs.

In addition, the delivery person can send you a text message in the app (no mobile number is required), so that you can always know their location and any problems. You can also place orders at drugstores like CVS and Walgreens.

Unlike other food delivery apps, Postmates also offers 24/7 service, as long as the restaurant or store you order from is still open.

The reviewer ordered dinner at a more upscale local restaurant on a Friday night. The delivery time was expected to be 40 minutes but ended up taking 50 minutes. However, the food was still hot. They ordered two entrees for $37 and got a $2 deal, all costing $56, including the driver's $9 tip. Here are the data details:

Delivery time: Friday night

Estimated delivery time: 40 minutes

Actual delivery time: 50 minutes

Two meals: $37

Taxes and fees: +$8

Shipping Fee: +$4

Discount: -$2

Driver tip: +$9

Total meal and tip: $56

The price of this restaurant on the app is slightly higher than in the restaurant. If you dine in the restaurant, the price of two main dishes is 34 yuan, plus a 20% tip, plus nothing else, you need to pay 41 USD, $15 cheaper.

Like DoorDash, Postmates also offers users a monthly subscription option. Postmates Unlimited costs $10 per month or $100 per year and offers free shipping on all your orders, plus other perks on orders over $15, and no markup during busy hours.

Delivery.com: More than just food delivery

Delivery.com operates in more than 1,800 U.S. cities, with approximately 15,000 partner restaurants on the platform. Unlike the food delivery platform mentioned earlier, you can also order groceries, alcohol, and even order cleaning or dry cleaning services on Delivery, or you can give gifts to others.

On Delivery, you can search by restaurant or dish type, and filter by rating (optionally view Delivery.com and Yelp ratings), estimated delivery time, price range, and delivery fee. You can also switch to see only special deals, only free shipping, only the latest restaurants, or only group deals.

The reviewer ordered two entrees at a local Thai restaurant for $29, which ended up costing $43, including the driver's $6 tip. However, the delivery time is a bit messy. The estimated time of the restaurant is 45 to 60 minutes, but when ordering food, the APP prompts that it will arrive within 20 minutes. In the end, it took about an hour from ordering to delivery. The following is the specific data:

Delivery time: Thursday night

Estimated delivery time: 45 to 60 minutes

Actual delivery time: 65 minutes

Two meals: $29

Tax: +$2

Shipping Fee: +$5

Service Charge: +$1

Discount: -$0

Driver tip: +$6

Total meal cost: $43

This app has the most expensive dishes among all the food delivery apps. If you eat at this restaurant, two main dishes are $22, plus a 20% tip, plus other things, and the total cost is about $26, $17 cheaper than food delivery.

Points can be earned on the app, which can be redeemed for items such as technology, such as Roku or iPad mini. You can also donate your points to charity. Delivery.com may send promotions by email from time to time.
